Foxygen - Take the Kids Off Broadway (2011/2012)

Before we begin this review, I'd like to state that Foxygen is like no other band you've ever heard. Their music style is what makes them- well, Foxygen. That's what I like about them. It's nothing you'd hear everyday.

Anyways, back to this EP/Mini-LP, titled
Take the Kids Off Broadway, (2011/2012)
Like I said, Foxygen is different. You don't hear things like them everyday, unless you're a Doors fan.
Let's start with the background like we always do.

Foxygen originated around around 2003-2004. It is a duo consisted of Jonathan Rado and Sam France. They released their debut EP titled "Electric Sun Machine". They recently re-released their Ep/Mini-LP Take the Kids Off Broadway which I am reviewing today, and are releasing their new EP in 2013 titled "We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace and Magic". January 22 to be exact.

The debut track of this EP is probably my favorite, titled "Abandon my Toys". It has a small interlude of synth and a short 2 second jack in the box noise leading into the lyrics.
The problem with Foxygen is that their lyrics are difficult to find on the internet. I have the inability to find any lyrics from any of their songs. Anways, Abandon my Toys is a great track. The chorus reminds me of an ELO song, and the many instruments please me. It ends with a different melody, like they do in other songs as well. It is a great track.

The second track is titled "Make it Known". It is a great track, but takes a few listens to get into, and doesn't please me as much as the other songs on this album.

The third track is the title track, "Take the Kids Off Broadway". It is a great track, though unappreciated according to other people I've heard from. It sticks to its beginning melody, which lowers its value to me, (because Foxygen likes to change melody), but it doesn't make it a bad song. It still is a great track, but like I said, if you changed the melody a few times, I think it'd be better.

The song "Waitin' 4 U" is next. This song is great too, I'd rate it 9/10 because of its great melody and lyrics. It doesn't fit the style of the album as the other tracks do, but I guess you could say any album has an oddball song that is still amazing, like "This is the Day" on The The's album Soul Mining. or "Pumped Up Kicks" on Foster the People's album Torches. It has a definite attractiveness to it, as well as all the other tracks on the album.

The next track is the longest track on the album, "Teenage Alien Blues". It is 10:01 minutes long. THIS song reminds me of the Doors the most. The guitar in the beginning is great, but the ending just takes me away! It puts you in a deep contemplative trance. This would be one of the greats on this album as well. This song is amazing, must I say!

The song "Why Did I Get Married?" is probably the strangest track, but is still amazing! This is one of those "Does not Disappoint" songs, (as all of these tracks are). I love the charm it brings. It has to be on one of the best tracks with- well, all of these!

The song finale "Middle School Dance (Song for Richard Swift)" is good too. I still need to listen to it to get an understanding of it.

So, sit back,

Put your hands above your head, make sure you're not standing on the edge of someone's shadow, (because it could happen to you!) and LISTEN!!!

My album rating: 9/10.
